5. Apolo Anton Ohno

Probably the most famous speed skater to ever live, Apolo Anton Ohno is American Olympic legend. He has pretty much been the face for the U.S. short-track speed skating team throughout the entirety of the 21st century Winter Olympics circuit. Born in Seattle, his parents divorced when he was a baby and he was raised by his Japanese-born father, Yuki Ohno. With his father working long hours, Ohno got into swimming and skating and at 14 years old, he became the youngest to ever win the U.S. short-track speed skating championship. He has won eight medals in his three trips to the Winter Olympics, the most ever by an American. In Salt Lake City (2002), Turin (’06) and Vancouver (’10), Ohno amassed two golds, two silvers and four bronzes. He also won eight gold medals in world championships. I remember always rooting so hard for this dude depsite not giving a flying fuck about the sport he was playing. That’s how you know you are great!!
